Winter 2011/12

Returning Customers: RENEW NOW!
New Customers: WELCOME ABOARD!

Kansas lawns are recovering from another extraordinarily severe summer.  We'ev had 2 summers in a row that brough extended periods of extreme high temperatures, accompanied by drought conditions.

What is severe? There are 5 factors: 1. Daytime temperatures above 90°; 2. Nighttime temperatures above 70°; 3. Lack of rainfall; 4. Low relative humidity (dew point); 5. Elevated soil temperatures.

Recovery fertilizer is in place on your lawn through our fertilization application program.

 What should we do now?

The most important thing we can do for your lawn now is to begin (or continue!) a comprehensive lawn care program tailored to the specific needs of your turf.

Through winter we will be working on our scheduled lawn care applications.

**IMPORTANT**
Set your mower blades as high as possible: Ideally 3 to 3.5" high to support a healthy lawn. Mulch those remaining leaf piles right back into your lawn for optimal nutrient absorption.

    What are AERATION and OVERSEEDING?
Consider Dormant Seeding this Winter for
    those bare patches!

AERATION and OVERSEEDING are recommended for all lawns with 70% grass stand or more.  Aerating pulls plugs from the ground, then seed is sown and brushed into the holes: this helps the lawn breathe and allows gases to escape; then the improved seed varieties supplement your lawn’s ecosystem.

     What is VERTICUTTING?

VERTICUTTING – usually spot verticutting – is recommended for the most severe damage and is best done in conjunction with aeration.  Verticutting renovates completely bare areas: slices are made in long rows on the lawn, then seeds are dropped into these grooves so that grass will take root again, spread and grow.

What is best for MY LAWN?

During a normal year, AERATION is recommended for all lawns during late Summer/early Fall.  This year we recommend AERATION and SPOT VERTICUTTING to be done in conjunction with one another - AERATION overall, SPOT VERTICUTTING for the completely bare areas – to achieve a healthy, lush lawn.

Standard AERATION and SEEDING on a 6000 square foot lawn is $80.  Additional fees will be charged  for VERTICUTTING ($80 per 1000 square feet) that needs to be done on areas that cannot be fixed by AERATION.  Charlie will call you with an estimate for VERTICUTTING once he evaluates the condition of your lawn.

Is it too late SEED now?  No!

Call us today to discuss and/or schedule your DORMANT SEEDING.
